Identity branding
Client: Healthway Pharmacy
Project: Logo design for startup.
Problem: The client is a pharmacist venturing out to open up his own pharmacy. I was tasked to create a logo that would communicate it is community pharmacy to the potential customer.
Process: Proceeded to do online research of past historical logos in the field of pharmacy. The online research from Wikipedia says,
“Bowl of Hygieia is one of the symbols of pharmacy. Hygieia was the Greek goddess of Health hygiene, and the associate, wife, or daughter of Asclepius. Asclepius' symbol is his rod, with a snake twined around it; correspondingly, Hygieia's symbol is a cup or chalice with a snake twined around its stem and poised above it…The bowl of Hygieia is a common symbol on signs outside of pharmacies in Europe. A mortar and pestle is a more common symbol in the United States.”
Logo options for using it on signage, prescription bottles to on a lab coat.
After doing the research I began sketching and settled on a combination of these symbols in one logo consolidating it and paying homage to the history of the field as well using current symbols. In doing so the logo ends up visually telling the story of the field of pharmacy.
Logo on business cards:

After a few meetings and discussions about the color palette I presented the logo with numerous color variations. One was chosen.
