My UX Designer Journey

As I pivot my career to UX design this blog is a journal of my own user experience journey into UX design.

Doing an online UX Bootcamp while in Quarantine Life

I have to say starting an online UX Bootcamp is a great idea because there is a lot of down time to do the readings and ideate, prototype however really hard to do a usability test. The topic I have picked is mobile phones for illiterate elder adults. Getting access to enough individuals of this group I want to study has been a challenge. I have tried contacting my local library but due to privacy issues I met a roadblock. Posting it on a library board would be a solution however the libraries are closed even if they were open an illiterate adult would not be able to read it. Fortunately, I have access to 2 people in my life that are elder and illiterate. I have read 5 users to interview is ideal for an agile study. I’ll take the two for now and keep my eyes open for other means to access this group. (Note: In a normal circumstance I would interview people I don’t know but for the sake of keeping on a time line I am pushing forward).

6/19 I participated in an user research interview. After I was done helping that I asked a research questions on how to find my group to usability research. Suggestions for contacting ESL in a local community college, the International Refugee Committee. I’ll have to see if any of these venues pan out.

7/9/2020

I was on a zoom call with my local chapter of Interaction Design Foundation people in which people were talking about their companies, experiences, processes. This was a good time for me to question how they are performing User tests and Usability test during quarantine life. Hot jar, Zoom calls and other apps were mentioned. However my burning question was how they made their initial contacts especially dealing with elder illiterate population. I was able to make a contact with someone who is the Executive Director of Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition. This is looking more hopeful!
