Once upon a time my mother in law came to permanently live with us in the States. As the years went by we needed to be able to communicate to her when she or we went out. Enter the flip phone! About 10 numbers were numerically programmed in. So, 1 would be her son, 2 would be me, 3 would be her son in Texas, 4 would her Texas daughter in law etc. Often when we went to cultural events we would have meeting spots but if the plans were to change and I or anyone else needed to contact her they rarely got through. My pain point: If you own a phone and you have it with you why don’t you answer it or at least call me back?
Goal: How to make the mobile phone more accessible to elder illiterate females and their caregivers?
Focus: Why do elder illiterate females miss calls? Why do they not call back?
